Ribbon Award

Great News: Brecon Triathlon Club has achieved Ribbon Award status with Welsh Triathlon.
Ribbon status will soon be the mandatory requirement for affiliation to WT. In time bronze (the next level), will be the required standard so this remains a work in progress.
Bronze status will be required if we have a formal junior section.

Pembroke - Race report Tom (posted 21/7/19)

ArthieLily
Arthen & Lilwen

So another Sunday and another Triathlon for the kids, this time in Pembroke.
A challenging route both bike and run. All did well in the Swim.
The bike - a climb to start then an out and back loop with 4 dead turns per lap (had to teach kids how to handle the turns in practice) with the route dotted with sharp speedbumps every 30m. Arthie had 4 laps. Lily and Aelwen had 6! So glad it wasn't raining and there were a number of crashes. A great effort by all 3 of them with Arthie and Lilwen on new to them bikes and for Aelwen whose chain kept bouncing off on the bumps.
The run was brutally steep for the 1st 200m with the competitors returning to it half way up on each loop (Arthen 2 loops, girls 3 loops).
Positions were Arthen, a provisional 3rd (actual 4th) which led to us bringing him back for the presentation. Which he found a little upsetting but a stella effort considering he's in the younger half of the 2yr age group (9 to 10). Aelwen a good 6th considering the time lost on the bike and Lily her best yet at 9th

TriStar Series at Bala - Aelwen, Lilwen and Arthen
TriStar Series at Bala - Aelwen, Lilwen and Arthen

Just a short report from Round 7 of the TriStar Series at lake Bala on Saturday.
Worrying reports were coming through on Thursday and Friday that the event was going to be downgraded to a duathlon due to traces of Blue-Green algae. Luckily the event was given the go-ahead late Friday evening as this was the second of three open-water rounds classified as Inter-Regional Qualifiers.
31 TriStar-2 females took the start line, including Aelwen and Lilwen from BTC. All we're given the option to wear a wet-suit or not (personally I wish the race Commissare would have made a decision one way or the other).
After a congested swim Aelwen was sixth out of the lake and a fair way down on the leaders having been held up and not experienced enough to fight her way through the traffic. Having clawed most of the lost time back on the bike, Aelwen put in a solid run and finished second overall, 30-seconds behind the winner and four seconds ahead of third place.
With her first place in Llanelli and second in Bala we believe mathematically Aelwen can't finish any lower than third place in the IRC qualifiers, which gives her automatic qualification to represent Wales (and the club) at the home nations championships at Mallary Park, Leicestershire in September.
Well done Lilwen Thomas Banning who finished an excellent 20th. Lilwen is definitely showing improvement in her performances against children who are coached and train in triathlon by their respective clubs

AGM 18th February
AGM 18th February 2018

AGM Date: Tuesday, 19th February 2019 - 7pm
This is a final reminder that the Brecon Triathlon Club AGM will be held at The Bank, Brecon on Tuesday 19th February at 7PM. So far we have had about a dozen responses ordering food and a couple of people saying they will be unable to attend. This is a very important period for the club and it would be great to see as many members as possible in attendance. Traditionally the club has paid for a meal for those attending and this will be the case this time. A menu has been emailed to you for you to make your choice. The Bank have requested that we let them know meal choices by a week before so please could you reply to thevandalists@live.co.uk with your choice by 10th February 2019. Unfortunately I will not be able to accept any requests for food after that date and will only be paying for pre ordered food. I will be putting together the agenda in the next few days. If you would like to add anything to that agenda please contact me at thevandalists@live.co.uk with a title for what you wish to discuss and a guess at the amount of time it will take.
Please bring along your membership fee (£10) for 2019.

Catherine Pendleton Swims the English Channel Solo (posted 4/10/18)

Cath at Sunrise

She's DONE IT!!!!!!!!!
Catherine Pendleton has successfully completed her solo English Channel swim today!
This really is a fantastic achievement and a first for a Brecon Triathlon Club member!
Cath set off in the dark at 5am from Samphire Hoe, just south of Dover. Her escort vessel was the "Gallivant". Weather was fair and then 2 hours into the swim there was sunrise.
Catherine had cleared the separation channel, entering the north west shipping channel around lunchtime.
She swam on into this evening, finally reaching France in the dark at around 10.30pm
She smashed her target to raise 2,000 for both her charities SSAFA and Welsh Hearts. .

Catherine's website: www.swimcathswim.co.uk

There is still time to donate to Catherine's two Charities: SSAFA and Welsh Hearts
